Cartridge Overhang Adjustment
NOTE: This procedure is for manual turntables only
Cartridge misalignment is the largest contributor to distortion in your turntable. A misaligned cart can cause distortion in the neighborhood of 5%. A properly aligned cartridge will reduce that to the tonearm spec.
Step 1: Place your turntable on level work surface and set up a simple construction laser so that it throws a vertical line that intersects the centre of the spindle and the centre of the tonearm pivot.
Step 2: Place the overhang measuring tool on the spindle and align the scale with the laser line
Step 3: Carefully place the tonearm over the overhang measuring tool so that the stylus is sitting on the tool and inline with the laser.
Step 4: Read the measurement from the measuring tool where the stylus resets. This is the overhang.
Step 5: Slide the cart forward or backward in the head shell until the stylus is at the specified overhand for the toneam +/- 0.5mm
Step 6: Snug up just one of the cart mounting screws and remove the head shell. Twist the cart in the head shell so that is parallel with the sides of the cartridge. Tighten both screws. Recheck overhang.
